Easter in Sardinia

Sardinia is an enchanting island governed by it's traditions. However, easter in Sardinia is not just another excuse for extra days off work. In the holy week, "La Week Santa", it's common to see evocative processions and ancient rituals throughout various locations across the entire week, each depicting their symbolism of the festivities and re-enacting the days of Jesus's crucifixion to his resurrection on Easter Sunday . With costumes, music, candles, flowers and statues Sardinia succumbs to a sacred religious atmosphere.

Following the parades, sermons and songs, everyone wishes one another a Happy Easter "Happy Easter!" and returns home for a traditional homecooked family meal. The Sardinian style Sunday roast dinner is a local recipe of Roast Lamb and Sardinian Spiny Artichokes seasoned with garlic, rosemary and myrtle. Preheat the oven to 180 ° C and add your lamb, artichoke hearts, potato and seasoning, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and roast for 45 minutes and pair with a stunning Sardinian white wine. And for dessert… the traditional little pastry parcels we call Formagelle (the Sardinian cheesecakes).
